PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with thrust bearing by making a journal bearing have an axial load. SOLUTION: The journal bearings 10a, 10b are provided at both ends of a rotation shaft 30 of a large-size, high speed rotation horizontal-type pump. The shaft 30 is formed with tapered parts 31a, 31b which incline opposite to each other toward outer peripheries of right and left ends, and tapered inner surfaces 4a, 4b inside the journal bearings 10a, 10b are respectively brought into contact with the tapered parts 31a, 31b. Since both radial load and the axial load of the shaft are received by the tapered inner surfaces 4a, 4b, the conventionally used thrust bearing can be eliminated, a length of the shaft can be reduced, thereby reducing the pump in size.
