The selector has a controllable clutch (20) in the selector-lever power transmission path between the knob (4) of the selector lever and a selection element (6) which can be operated by it. The clutch has a clutch casing (22) which can be moved along the longitudinal axis of the selector lever to a closed position in which it covers both parts of the selector lever (8-1, 8-2), connecting them.
