PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce development cost by shortening the period required in selection of an electric expansion valve at design of an air conditioner. SOLUTION: In an air conditioner (10) for object of design, filling quantity ratio X is obtained by dividing the refrigerant filling quantity of a refrigerant circuit (20) by the specified reference quantity of a refrigerant. A motor-operated expansion valve (36) of a flow coefficient larger than the value being obtained by multiplying an operation value, which is obtained by performing specified operation, using this filling quantity ratio X, by rated cooling capacity (kW) is selected. Hereby, the quantity of a circulating refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit (20) is secured, and the temperature of a refrigerant discharged from a compressor (30) is kept at a prescribed upper limit value or below even under heating overload conditions.
