PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a corresponding dialdehyde by oxidizing a 1,4-diol, 1,5-diol or 1,6-diol with OXYGEN. SOLUTION: This method for producing a dialdehyde is to produce a corresponding dialdehyde by reacting a 1,4-diol, 1,5-diol or 1,6-diol with an enzyme in the presence of a metal catalyst and water. In the method the reaction can be carried out by adding water in the reaction system or without removing water generated during the reaction out of the reaction system. The amount of water to be present in the reaction system is, e.g. 0.01-10 mole based on 1 mole of the diol used as a raw material.
