Process for the preparation of a solution, in particular a dialysis or infusion solution

To prepare a dialysis or an infusion solution, a water soluble and non-hygroscopic acid-reacting component which is a solid acid and/or a solid salt is mixed with an alkaline bicarbonate solution such that the acid/salt concentration does not exceed 6 mmol/l and the bicarbonate concentration does not exceed 40 mmol/l in the finished solution. Preparation of a solution, especially a dialysis or an infusion solution, comprises: (i) dissolving in water and in a first container an acid-reacting component, which is a solid acid and/or a solid salt, and which is water soluble and not hygroscopic; (ii) mixing the solution in (i) with an alkaline bicarbonate solution present in a second container in an amount such that the amount of acid/or salt does not exceed 6 mmol and the amount of bicarbonate does not exceed 40 mmol in a liter of the finished solution. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a solution as above; (2) apparatus for preparing the above solution comprising at least 2 containers as above.
