The connector has a plug part with at least one contact pin and a socket part with a corresponding number of contact sleeves (7), contained within a socket housing (2) having an end plate (1) with a respective opening aligned with each contact sleeve. The housing has pressure-equalizing bores (8) communicating with a space (9) around the outside of a membrane (5) enclosing an inner space (29) filled with a non-conductive fluid, around the outside of each contact sleeve. Each contact sleeve has a front sealing sleeve (15) and a spring-loaded piston (6) displaced by the inserted contact pin, with pressure equalizing valves (17,24) allowing the spaces on either side of the piston to be coupled to the inner space.
