PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for inspecting a nuclear fuel clad pipe in a state of being accommodated in a container for damage efficiently and reliably. SOLUTION: The nuclear fuel clad pipe having sealed the nuclear fuel and a filler gas inside is accommodated in the container 1. A gas sample, which is sampled at a sampling piping 17 from a communicating portion 2 provided on the container 1, is sucked in a gas detector to be tested for the filler gas therein. When the nuclear fuel clad pipe has damage, the filler gas may leak in the container to be detected by the gas detector.
