The present invention relates to individually adaptable mattresses and cushions. The present invention can be used in all sitting, lying and/or sleeping devices where foam material forms the basis. A mattress or cushion according to the present invention comprises two moulded cassette halves (4,6), together forming a cassette (2) enclosing an inner space, and a plurality of separate, replaceable support blocks (26-52) for filling the inner space of the cassette according to a personally desired pattern. The cassette halves (4,6) each comprise a planar section (7) and a raised edge portion (44) over the entire circumference of the planar section, and the cassette halves are oriented with the raised borders towards each other. The raised borders of the two cassette halves are only partially interconnected to each other. This partial interconnection may be formed for example by a seam (11) which is glued or welded.
