<p>A heating system (8) for a tower mounted wind machine (10) is provided. The heating system (8) includes a burner (20) that is rotatably mounted on the tower (13), in the air stream (12) of the wind machine (10). The burner (20) receives a combustible fuel (50) conducted through a rotatable manifold (30) on the central tower (13). The wind machine (10) is a conventional type, generating the air stream (12) by the rotation of a propeller (15). The wind machine (10) is received on the top of a central tower (13). The manifold (30) also mounts to the central tower (13), proximate the wind machine (10). The manifold (30) has an inner ring (36) and an outer ring (37). The inner ring (36) mounts in a fixed position to the central tower (13), and the outer ring (37) circumferentially mounts on the inner ring (36). The outer ring (37) is rotatable relative to the inner ring (36). The inner ring (36) includes a fuel inlet (39), and the outer ring (37) includes a fuel outlet (44). The burner (20) combusts the fuel (50) that is conducted through the manifold (30) to heat the air stream (12). The outer ring (37) is cooperatively rotatable about the wind machine (10) with respect to the central tower (13) and is maintained in a synchronous position with respect to the wind machine (10). <IMAGE></p> |
