PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide material for a shadow mask excellent in press-workability and magnetic properties and to provide an advantageous method for producing the same material. SOLUTION: This material for a shadow mask has a composition containing, by weight. <=0.015% C, <=0.2% Si, 0.1 to 0.5% Mn, <=0.01% P, <=0.005% S, 34 to 38% Ni, <=1.0% Cr, <=0.02% Al, <=0.0005% Ca, <=0.0005% Mg and <=0.0060% O, and the balance Fe, and in which the ratio of (Al-10Ca)/0 lies in the range of 5 to 40, and further, the ratio of (Al+10Ca+20Mg)/0 lies in the range of 10 to 60, and the producing method uses the same.
