PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink for ink jet recording which shows an excellent clogging resistance and long-term shelf stability, prevents blurring of single-color images, especially on plain paper and yields a highly uniform image density and an image showing an excellent resistance to scuffing and quick-drying property. SOLUTION: The ink for ink jet recording contains at least water, a water-soluble organic solvent and a self-dispersible dyestuff. Here, (a) the total amount of surface hydrophilic groups in the self-dispersible dyestuff is from 0.3 to 0.6 mmol per 1 g dyestuff, (b) the surface tension of the ink at 23 deg.C is from 40 to 55 mN/m, (c) the contact angle of the ink against plain paper after 1 s at 23 deg.C is from 40 to 100 deg. and (d) the ink contains 2.5×103/μ1 particles having a particle size of >=0.5 μm. |
