PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing a fluorinated hydrocarbon with a simple device at normal temperature and under an atmospheric pressure. SOLUTION: This method for decomposing the fluorinated hydrocarbon, characterized by suspending the fine particles of titanium dioxide in an anode solution comprising the alkaline electrolyte aqueous solution of the fluorinated hydrocarbon in an alcohol and then subjecting the fluorinated hydrocarbon to a constant electric potential electrolysis (electrolytic oxidation) under the irradiation of UV light.
