PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of instantly determining the traveling direction of an object. SOLUTION: In the embodiment shown in Fig. 11, plural image signals having different detection wavelength bands are inputted to plural binary processing parts 17 formed corresponding to the image signals one-on-one along with position data of a significant object. The plural binary processing parts 17 carry out binary processing in relation to the significant object part of the image signal. The plural binary processing image signals binary processed in the binary processing parts 17 are outputted to plural feature amount calculating parts 18 formed corresponding to the plural binary processing parts 7 one-on-one. The plural feature amount calculating part 18 calculate feature amounts such as the area of significant object, the longitudinal center of gravity, the lateral center of gravity, the overall center of gravity, the longitudinal length, the lateral length, the ratio of the longitudinal length to the lateral length or luminance information before the binary processing the feature amount data of the plural feature amount calculating parts 18 ate outputted to an object direction determination part 19. The object direction determination part 19 calculates and outputs the traveling direction of the object.
