PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber by making a wire drawing of a preform comprising several layers. SOLUTION: This method for producing an optical fiber varied in wavelength dispersion in the longitudinal direction comprises making a wire drawing of a preform comprising several layers by altering drawing tension so as to afford the final optical fiber with a given diameter and varied profiles; wherein at least one of the layers differs in viscosity from the other layer(s) at a drawing temperature. The method can be applied to producing dispersion managed fibers(DMF).
