PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for keeping freshness of a plant, capable of suppressing the generation of ethylene from a plant body itself, and exhibiting excellent freshness-keeping effects, and further to provide a method for keeping the freshness of the plant by using the agent. SOLUTION: This agent for keeping the freshness of the plant contains benzoic acid and/or salts (salt of zinc, potassium, calcium, sodium or the like) of the benzoic acid as an active ingredient. When using the agent, the concentration of the benzoic acid and/or the salts of the benzoic acid is preferably regulated so as to be 1-1,000 weight ppm. The agent for keeping the freshness of the plant can be applied to the whole or a part of the objective plant.
