PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate separation of sheets even of a thin type. SOLUTION: A sheet feeder 240 comprises a sheet stacking means 22 on which sheets are stacked, a sheet feeding means 16 for feeding the sheets from the sheet stacking means, and a plurality of slanted members 11 to 13 disposed along the downstream edges of the sheets stacked on the sheet stacking means in order to separate the sheets one from the next when they are fed by the sheet feeding means. Out of the slanted members, a first slanted member 12 with a small feed resistance is opposed to the middle portion of the downstream edges of the sheets, and second slanted members 11 and 13 with a large feed resistance are spaced outward from the first slanted member.
