PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever device and a movable body position detecting device capable of detecting a fault of a detecting portion such as a magnetic sensor in early stages. SOLUTION: In a shift position detecting device 70 of this shift lever device 10, a magnet 72 is detected by all magnetic sensors 82 to 92 with locating a shift lever 16 at a P position, and then these magnetic sensors 82 to 92 are turned on. Therefore, under that condition, if at least any one of magnetic sensors 82 to 92 is in an off state, it is determined that the magnetic sensor in the off state may be at fault.
