Process for regenerating a molten metal, especially a zinc melt, contaminated with mixed crystals comprises heating the metal above its liquidus temperature; and mechanically removing the mixed crystals produced on cooling by feeding the metal through a cooling unit (8) and then passing though a filter (12). An Independent claim is also included for a device for regenerating a molten metal, especially a zinc melt, contaminated with mixed crystals comprising a pump (6) which conveys the molten metal from a sink (2) to a cooling unit (8) and to a filter (12). Preferred Features: The filter is a ceramic filter, especially a foam filer based on silicon carbide or aluminum oxide.
