<p>An integrated drive unit (10) having planetary gearing (12) and an annular cone brake element (70, 70') affixed to a hydraulic motor barrel (24). A brake piston (66) encircles the hydraulic motor barrel (24) and is selectively engageable with the cone brake element (70, 70') to actuate the cone brake element (70, 70') into frictional contact with the spindle (52) of the integrated drive unit (10) to act as a safety/parking brake. The cone brake element (70, 70') is formed of a bronze-type powdered metal of sufficient durability to withstand dynamic braking. The hydraulic motor (14) is selectively connectable to a transmission (12) including planetary gearing. The planetary gearing (12) of the present invention includes a planet gear carrier (44) having carrier pins (82) formed of a relatively low carbon steel and locally hardened over the area on which the planet gears will be supported. In an alternative embodiment, a carrier pins sleeve (140) formed of VESPEL is utilized as the bearing between the planet gear (42) and the carrier pin (82). <IMAGE></p> |
