PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for activating a getter of a flat display device are provided to reduce the damage of a panel by simplifying a getter activation process. CONSTITUTION: A getter activation portion(20) is composed of a getter activation space portion(31) and a heating portion(32). The getter activation space portion(31) activates a getter by heating the getter. The heating portion(32) heats the getter activation space portion(31). A getter shift tube(23) shifts the activated getter from the getter activation portion(20) to an inside of a panel through an exhaust tube(22). The getter activation space portion(31) has an input hole for inputting the getter. The size of the input hole corresponds to the size of the getter. The heating portion(32) is formed with a heating line or a radio frequency heating device. The getter shift tube(23) is formed with a floating pipe.
