The use of extracts (I) of plants of the Solanaceae family or the Physalis, Stachytarpheta or Peumus genus is claimed for the production of cosmetic preparations or as active agent for the production of a composition for increasing the metabolic activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH). Independent claims are included for: (i) the use of a natural product (II) selected from estrogens, phytoestrogens, estradiols, isoflavones, retinol acid and retinol derivatives as active agent for the production of a composition for increasing the metabolic activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH); and (ii) a method for assessing the effectiveness of an agent against skin aging, involving determining the effect of the agent on the G6PDH activity in fibroblasts. |
