PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flux for submerged arc build-up welding which decreases the quantity of the carbon in weld metal, does not give rise to a welding defect, such as an undercut, to the end of weld beads, has good slab peelability and is used together with an austenitic stainless steel strip-like electrode. SOLUTION: The flux for submerged arc build-up welding used by being combined with the stainless steel strip-like electrode containing >=16% Cr and >=8% Ni contains, by mass %, 20 to 35% SiO2, 20 to 30% MgO, 5 to 15% CaF2, <=20% Cab, 15 to 25% Al2O3 and <=0.7% total C.
