PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscous material coating method and a viscous material coater by which a viscous material is coated stably by always preventing the contact of the viscous material with air, the swelling out of the viscous material in the operation does not occur and the discharge pressure is controlled with high precision and high responsiveness, the viscosity is adjusted and the coating with high quality is attained. SOLUTION: In the viscous material coating method and the viscous material coater for applying the viscous material on a material to be coated by using a coating unit 3 having a storage chamber 3a for the viscous material 4 and provided with a discharge port for the viscous material 4 to be communicated with the storage chamber 3a and allowing the discharge port 8 of the coating unit 3 to contact with the screen mask 53 to relatively move, the viscous material 4 in the storage chamber 3a is stirred by repeating the relative movement in the horizontal direction, the vertical direction or both direction to the screen mask 53 in a state that the coating unit 3 is brought into contact with the screen mask 53.
