PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot impact printer wherein a printing operation speed is raised and a printing speed for continuous dots is raised by reducing a printing operation time period consisting of an attracting operation time period and a restoring operation time period of a print wire. SOLUTION: This dot impact printer comprises a print head driver circuit 2 that receives a print command from a host device and outputs a driving current, a print head 5 that receives the driving current from the print head driver circuit 2 to perform the printing operation, a paper sheet 6 on which a dot is formed to be printed by the print head and a platen 7 for feeding the paper sheet 6. The print head driver circuit 2 outputs to the print head 5 a first driving current 3 for performing the printing operation on the paper sheet 6 by the print head 5 and a second driving current 4 for restoring the print head 5 to a standby position by separating the print head 5 from the paper sheet 6 after completion of the printing operation.
