PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can shorten a margin and eliminate backlash. SOLUTION: This printer has a printer body 11, a lid body 50 set openably to the printer body, a sprocket 12 for sending a sheet from a sheet roll 16 set to the printer body 11, a platen roller 13 for printing to the sheet, a thermal head 51 for printing to the sheet, a driving mechanism for rotating the sprocket 12 and the platen roller 13, and a gear mechanism for rotating a ribbon core of an ink ribbon cassette 60 loaded to the lid body 50 by the driving mechanism. The sprocket 12 and the platen roller 13 are set to the printer body 11, while the thermal head 51 is set to the lid body 50. The platen 13 is disposed to the downstream side of the sprocket 12, so that the backlash of a platen gear when the lid body 50 is closed is eliminated.
