PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress noise generation by preventing a latch timing signal for taking next data into a memory from being inputted during input of a start signal for causing a printer to execute printing. SOLUTION: The controller for thermal head comprises a drive circuit divided into a plurality of specified number of groups and corresponding to a plurality of heating elements being driven to form print pixels, a first memory circuit for temporarily storing print data corresponding to the number of heating elements received from an external unit, a second memory circuit for temporarily storing print data stored in the first memory circuit received in parallel based on a specified timing signal, a strobe delay circuit receiving a strobe signal imparting a time for outputting the print data stored in the second memory circuit to each drive circuit and delivering a drive permit signal to each group of drive circuit while shifting by a specified time, and a latch signal delay circuit for delivering a latch timing signal, inputted during an effective interval of the drive permit signal delivered to the drive circuit, to the first storage circuit at the end of the drive permit signal.
