PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique to remove phosphorus by an extremely simple method at a high speed to a high degree from natural environment water such as rivers, lakes and marshes without using a large-scale apparatus and a dephosphorizing material expensive in manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: This method and device for removing phosphorus comprises forming a packed bed by using a hollow powdered solid having 80% or higher packing void volume, adding fine particles of iron hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide to the packed bed and making phosphorus-containing water pass through the packed bed. The fine particles of iron hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide are preferably produced by adding an alkalizing agent of a slurry state to the acid solution of trivalent iron or aluminum.
