PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the deterioration of printed matter, capable of enhancing the light fastness and gas resistance of a printed matter only by applying a simple treatment to the printed matter. SOLUTION: In the method for preventing the deterioration of printed matter by treating a printed matter, wherein an image or the like is formed on a recording medium by dye ink, with a treatment liquid, the treatment liquid is an aqueous resin dispersion containing a resin, a light fastness enhancer and an ink fixing agent and the aqueous resin dispersion has the lowest film forming temperature of 70 deg.C or higher and the resin has properties capable of setting the oxygen permeability of the printed matter 'printd matter wherein an image is formed on the ink receiving layer of the recording medium, of which the water-resistant base material is water-resistant paper of which the oxygen permeability under environment with a temperature of 20 deg.C and a relative humidity of 90% is 30 cc/(m2.D.atm) or more, by the dye ink' to 10 cc/ m2.D.atm or less under the environment with a temperature of 20 deg.C and a relative humidity of 90% when the surface of the image of the printed matter is coated with the resin in a coating amount of 15 g/m2.
