PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device wherein assembling cost is reduced, the device is made compact, a driving load is minimized and a carriage can be accurately driven. SOLUTION: This device comprises the carriage 3 to be scanned in a predetermined scanning region, a carriage motor 11 provided on the carriage 3 and two wires 16, 18 which are wound around a pulley member 13 in the scanning region of the carriage 3 to be suspended along the scanning direction. The pulley member 13 is moved along the wires 16, 18 along with the scanning of the carriage 3 driven by the carriage motor 11. The one end of the first wire 16 is fixed to the device through a first extension spring 15 and the one end of the second wire 18 is fixed to the device through a second extension spring 17. The first and second extension springs 15, 17 are respectively provided to sides opposite to each other in the scanning direction of the carriage 3.
