PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic plate supporting device with which a backing strip is supported from the side of a face to be welded and the positioning of metallic plates whose one side is to be butt-welded is performed from the side of the face to be welded. SOLUTION: The metallic plates 1 and 2 are positioned from the side of the face to be welded in a way that a bolt 25 for fixing the backing strip inserted through a second supporting body 22 is engaged with the backing strip 23 located on the reverse side of the face to be welded of the metallic plates 1 and 2, the backing strip 23 is supported from the side of the face to be welded, and the front end of an adjusting bolt 26 engaged with the second supporting body 22 is butted with the metallic plates 1 and 2 in a state that a first supporting body 21 arranged on the reverse side of the face to be welded of the metallic plates 1 and 2 whose one side is to be butt-welded and the second supporting body 22 arranged on the side of the face to be welded of the metallic plates 1 and 2 are mutually fastened with a bolt 24 for fastening the supporting bodies.
