996,878. Hydro-pneumatic shock-absorbers. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. May 30, 1963 [June 2, 1962], No. 21711/63. Heading F2S. A hydro-pneumatic shockabsorber for a washing- machine comprises a valved piston 3 which works in a cylinder 1 filled with a volume of fluid 10 in contact with a supplementary volume of gas 11 which is uncompressed in the no-load condition and a piston-rod 2 which extends through a seal 7. In an alternative arrangement, the air volume still remains at the upper end of the cylinder, but the piston-rod projects through a seal 7 at the lower end of the cylinder. The volumes of the liquid and gas are such that the damping resistance of the piston 3, for small displacements from the central position towards the gas volume, is greater than the elastic resistance of the gas volume so that small vibrations due, e.g. tc the critical speed of a rotat able washing-machine container, are not transmitted to the washing - machine housing. |
