Indole derivs. of formula (I), their salts and solvates are new. either: (i) Ra = R5 and Rb = a gp. of formula -C(R4)=C(R3)-C(R2)=C(OR1)[C(O)X] (a); or (ii) Ra = gp. (a) and Rb = R5; R5 = H, alkyl or opt. substd. aryl; X = OH or opt. substd. alkoxy or NRsRt; R1 = alkyl or opt. substd. aryl gp., R2-R4 = H, alkyl or opt. substd. aryl, Rs, Rt = H or alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl or heterocyclylalkyl (all opt. substd.); or Rs+Rt = a heterocycle; R6, R7 = H, OH, NH2, alkoxy, opt. substd. aryloxy or benzoyloxy, alkylamino, dialkylamino, halo, CF3, OCF3, NO2, alkyl, carboxy, carbalkoxy, carbamoyl, alkylcarbamoyl; or R6+R7 = methylenedioxy, carbonyldioxy or carbonyldiamino; and R8 = H, OH, alkanoyl, alkyl, aminoalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, carbalkoxyalkyl, carbamoyl or aminosulphonyl.
