<PICT:0955321/C1/1> Soluble, non-biodegradable, organic compounds in waste waters, mainly from detergents, which have had a preliminary treatment to remove suspended solids are introduced into activated-sludge aeration tank 9 by line 7. The effluent in line 14 which has had about 50% of water-soluble organic solids removed may be supplemented by a small amount of alkyl benzene sulphonate and is foamed in tower 17. The collapsed, removed foam leaving at 24 contains most of the organic solids while the purified effluent from line 19 may be further treated by activated charcoal or by passage through a semi-permeable membrane to yield potable water by line 32.
|
