PURPOSE: A shadow mask frame assembly for a flat CRT(cathode ray tube) is provided to prevent howling due to strip vibration of a flat shadow mask by using a mask stiffener and a traverse stiffener. CONSTITUTION: The shadow mask frame assembly comprises a frame having a first and a second support substances(31,32), and a first and a second elastic substances(33,34), and a flat shadow mask(40) having slots passing through an electron beam. The shadow mask frame assembly further includes a first and a second mask stiffeners(38,38'), and a first and a second traverse stiffeners(37,37'). The first and the second mask stiffeners(38,38') are welded between the upper surface of the first and second support substances(31,32) and the bottom surface of the shadow mask. The first and the second traverse stiffeners(37,37') are traversely connected to both end portions of the first and the second mask stiffeners(38,38').
