PURPOSE: A compressor with preheating unit is provided to allow the compressor to smoothly operate especially during an initial operation, while lengthening useful life of the compressor. CONSTITUTION: A condenser(2) and an expansion valve(3) are connected to a compressor(1), and an evaporator(4) is connected to the expansion valve so as to thereby constitute a cooling device. The compressor includes a preheating unit(5) and a temperature sensor(6) connected to a power source such as a vehicle battery. The preheating unit and the temperature sensor are connected to a controller(7) which stores a preset temperature and comparing element input to the controller. The temperature sensor senses the surface temperature of the compressor, and applies the sensed result to the controller. Then, the controller compares the preset temperature with the sensed temperature, and controls the preheating unit to preheat the compressor if the sensed temperature is lower than the preset temperature. The compressor stops it's operation during the preheating operation. When the temperature of the compressor reaches the preset temperature by the preheating unit, the preheating stops operates and the compressor starts operation.
