The invention relates to a method and a device for closing a door of an aircraft. It is the object of the invention to avoid failure during flight, of the latch mechanism of an aircraft door; while at the same time providing an economical design. From a method-related point of view, this object is met in that the latch mechanism (11, 12, 13, 14, 17; 110, 120, 130, 140, 170), which holds the latched position of the door, is locked by means of a lock mechanism (11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19; 110, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190) which due to delayed movement of a movement mechanism (20; 200) is activated by the drive (10; 100). From a device-related point of view, this object is met in that the drive shaft (11; 110) is connected to a lock drive (15; 150) which is connected to a lock (19; 190), which is hingeably or slideably held on a lock axis (18; 180), and in that the lock (19; 190) is arranged so as to engage a lock element (16; 160) attached to the latch axis (17; 170). The invention provides the advantage that with only one drive, which already exists, the additional function of a "locked latched position" can be achieved.
