PURPOSE: A non-adjustable head rest of a seat for a vehicle is provided to obtain the excellent ride comfort by keeping a distance between the head of a passenger and a head rest regular without regard to the height of the head rest. CONSTITUTION: A head rest(2) is supported by an oval pawl(4) having a gear piece(3). The gear piece of the oval pawl is engaged with a working gear(7) connected with a one-way latch gear(5) on the same axis(6). The latch gear is engaged with a stopper mechanically connected with a connecting bar of a push button(9). The stopper is mounted inside a housing(13). When the head rest is pulled up, the working gear is rotated and the latch gear is rotated counterclockwise. The stopper connected with the push button is operated freely so that the oval pawl is moved up. The head rest is set at the desired height. To move the head rest downward, the connecting bar rotates the stopper upward. The stopper is unlocked from the latch gear, and the latch gear is rotated clockwise integrally with the working gear. Thereby, the oval pawl is descended down. The head rest having flexible height improves the ride comfort of a passenger by keeping a distance between the head of the passenger and the head rest regular.
