PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector which can improve resolution and accuracy by reducing required steps in the phase adjustment and shortening the arithmetic processing time. SOLUTION: The rotating position detector has a position detector to detect position using an orthogonal two-phase signal and is provided with means 21 and 22, to convert analog signals of two phases outputted from the position detector into digital signals and a means 3 which removes offset errors in each phase, by equalizing the amplitude in the respective phases of the digital signals of two phases and performs an arithmetic processing for adjusting the difference between the phases to 90 deg.. A means is provided to compute the sum of and the difference between the signals of the respective phases, after the removal of the offset between the phases with the amplitude equalized in the phases of the position detector, and adjusts the phase difference between the respective phases to 90 deg., using the two signals generated.
