MESOPOROUS ACTIVATED ALUMINA USING KAOLINITE AND PREPARATION THEREOF

PURPOSE: A preparation method of mesoporous activated alumina using domestic kaolinite is provided to save the costs and enable mass production by extracting silica from kaolinite through calcination and alkaline solution treatment. The prepared activated alumina is widely used for adsorbents, air-driers and catalysts. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: calcining purified kaolinite(100) at 950-980deg.C for 4-24hrs, in the air to make SiO2 crystal layer of kaolinite be an amorphism; mixing calcined kaolinite powder with 2-6mol of KOH solution(110) in a ratio of 1:50-100; extracting SiO2(120) by reacting a mixture at 50-90deg.C for 1hr.; filtering and washing with water(130); and drying(140) at 110-120deg.C for 4-5hrs. The prepared activated alumina has 40-70angstrom of pore diameter and narrow pore distribution.
