Compositions containing bergamottin for increasing the oral bioavailability of pharmaceutical agents

Bergamottin is used in combination with a pharmaceutically active compound having low bioavailability and whose metabolism is facilitated by cytochrome P450 3A4, for inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A4 intestinal metabolism of the compound. Also described is a pharmaceutical composition which comprises a pharmaceutically active compound having low bioavailability and whose metabolism is facilitated by cytochrome P450 3A4, in combination with bergamottin and in admixture with at least one inert pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, diluent or carrier.
