The procedure for fitting a vehicle inner door assembly comprising a supporting panel (11) and a lock and outer handle assembly (7, 8) consists of making at least one additional aperture (9) adjacent to the central aperture (5) in the door's inner panel. This allows for the insertion of the lock and handle assembly together with the supporting panel in a direction largely perpendicular to the door's outer panel (2). It is then fixed in place by welding at several points to compensate for any loss of rigidity in the door.
