METHOD FOR COMPARING PARTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for comparing plural parts by comparing meta- data expressing the topology of parts in order to confirm the same or almost the same parts. SOLUTION: Meta-data corresponding to a certain objective parts are determined and compared with meta-data stored in a data base. The meta-data can include values indicating the volume, the surface areas and the principal moments of inertia of these parts. In addition, the meta-data can include a value indicating the centroid position of a cross section concerned with an intersection of the principal moments of inertia corresponding to respective planes of these principal moments of inertia. Thereby parts having mirror image relation can be distinguished. Plural complicated parts can be compared with each other by using a simple data base management tool and comparing only five values of the meta-data.
