PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas circuit breaker, having a smaller size and low driving power, ensuring superior grounding insulating performance at the end on the downstream side on an exhaust cylinder and improved reliability. SOLUTION: A shield 18, having a shape spreading to the outside, is provided at the end on the downstream side of the exhaust cylinder 7. The electric lines of force 11 has a dense gradient at the outside near the shield 18, and in turn, a sparse gradient at the inside. An outside electric field value Eout for the shield 18 is set at 1.5 times an inside electric field value Ein.
