PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system that can enhance security. SOLUTION: The authentication system 100 is provided with an image pickup device 10, that picks up the image of a user 50 of a mobile recording medium 40 to generate image data S10, a timing-generating circuit 29 that intermittently generates a timing signal S29, an extract circuit 21 that extracts data at a characteristic point or a singular point of the user 50 from the image data S10, and an authentication circuit 22 that compares data S21 extracted by the extract circuit 21 with data S30 at the characteristic point or the singular point of the user 50 recorded in advance, in the portable recording medium 40 and conducts authentication, on the basis of the comparison result.
