PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for applying gain control feedback signals to an RF amplifier in a transmission device such as a cell phone are provided to improve a linearity and a sensitivity. CONSTITUTION: As for application of cell phones, the level of transmission is set by a base station. In a cell phone, the transmission level received from the base station is selected couplers(22,24,26,28) by detecting the output power of a power amplifier(20) using a detector(32), and set up the gain of the power amplifier(20). According to the arrangement, a coupler can be selected from multiple couplers to realize a desired sensitivity and linearity of the coupler input for every part of the output power range of the power amplifier(20).
