PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terminal diagnostic method and device capable of instantaneously grasping the communication operation state of a terminal by a remote operation. SOLUTION: This terminal diagnostic device 4 is provided with a 1st communicating means for communicating with G4FAXes 6 installed in a private packet exchange network 5, a 2nd communication means for communicating with a personal computer 1 for a diagnosis existing at a remote place, a communication operation realizing means for realizing a communication operation with a G4FAX 6 responding to a command inputted from a personal computer 1, and a returning means for returning an operation situation realized by the communication operation realizing means to the computer 1 as a status, and the computer 1 can grasp the operation situation of the G4FAX 6 in such a manner that the returning means returns the communication operation situation realized by the communication operation realizing means as a status to the computer 1.
