PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain base paper which is used for release paper and has a high barrier property against solvents and water, and excellent water resistance. SOLUTION: This base paper which is used for release paper, has a coating layer formed from (A) a polyvinyl alcohol polymer and (B) an inorganic laminar compound on at least one side of a release paper substrate and has air permeability of >=10,000 sec.
