PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal processor which can provide optimum development environment at user's need and enables a processor of RAM version for development to perform the same processing as a processor of ROM version as a product. SOLUTION: In a small-scale system, a processor downloads a program from a program developing device such as a computer through a serial communication line such as RS232C and executes the program. In an intermediate- or large-scale system, a processor 200 downloads a program stored in an external host processor 220 through a leased high-speed serial bus 21 and stores it in a RAM. The processor 200 is placed in debug mode when the program is downloaded and switched back to normal mode after the downloading; and the processor is initialized with the cold reset instruction of an IPL program and then reads the program out of the RAM and executes it.
