PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal device with good display characteristics having a uniform gap between two substrates in the substrate plane. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 200 consists of a TFT array substrate 210, a counter substrate 220 and a liquid crystal layer 50 held between the substrates. The two substrates 210 and 220 are adhered with a sealing material 52 and the distance between the two substrates is held by a spacer 60 formed by a photolithographic process and disposed in the forming region of the sealing material 52.
