PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device and a picture signal correction device capable of displaying a picture with high display quality. SOLUTION: The picture display device is provided with a display device 8 having plural pixels for displaying a picture, so that picture signals g0 containing pixel signals for displaying information of each pixel, and the picture signal correction device 7 is provided with an average signal level calculation circuit 1 for averaging all the pixel signal levels as an average input brightness signal level G, an input signal-output brightness characteristic setting circuit 2 for setting an input signal-output brightness characteristic presenting variation in pixel brightness to the pixel signal levels according to the average input brightness signal level G, a maximum output brightness adjustment circuit 3 for adjusting the maximum output brightness of pixels of the display device 8 according to the average input brightness signal level G, and a signal correction part 4 for correcting the picture signal g0 so that it satisfies the set input- output brightness characteristic.
